Streetwear has always been related to tough activities. Bombing a train at night or sliding on an handrail with your skateboard or rocking a stage with ill rhyming patterns rather than spinning on your back on a cardboard pavement are mostly male activities but there has always been a female presence in our scene that made us feel good, telling us that nothing is wrong with our passions.
Unfortunately up to now the industry was focused mostly on the male body but things are changing for better. Blame it on the extreme diffusion of street style or on the noise of top collaborations among streetwear and high fashion, women are now more important than before. Eventually we have the chance to propose to our beloved female counterparts true streetwear items, in order to create flawless outfits to go to the club rather than to hit the gym.
So if up to now women borrowed items from their male friends, now thanks to brands like Adidas Originals and Nike Sportswear they can stop wearing male pants and they can get true female apparel. What if instead of denim pants and chinos, women started to wear skirts again? In a great sportswear tradition, like during the 70s epic tennis matches, skirts are back in a way that makes them fresh and fun at the same time.
Pleated or printed, long or short, with three stripes on the side or with a Swoosh close to the pocket, now sporty skirts are ready to enter women's wardrobe. For a better outcome, a mix and match style is always a winner. Wear them with a classic wool pullover or a shirt, let it show beneath your coat wearing contrast socks but beside style suggestions... don't forget the action.
Do your best to get to the next level of performance because a skirt lets you move all you want without restrictions. Run and dance. Lift those weights at the gym and go out to eat with your friends. Now you have the chance to show what you are really about and there is no way you will let others take it back from you.
Be feminine and show true love to streetwear world: we don't ask anything more from you, girl.
